With over 17,000,000 votes cast by baseball fans, DHL's Hometown Heroes were shown in three parts on ESPN. Fans were asked to vote for their favorite player on each of the 30 major league teams. Voting occurred in MLB stadiums, MLB.com, by cell phone or at any DHL shipping center nationwide. Players were selected according to an combination of career achievements, leadership, and character during voting from July 18 to September 17, 2006.
