College World Series

Years

Texas wins the College World Series over Florida 6-2. A sixth championship for the Longhorns places them second all-time behind USC's 12. In winning the their NCAA baseball championship, the Longhorns became only the second team not to be a top eight seed since the beginning of the 64 team format in 1999. Texas also won the national title without winning their Big 12 conference or postseason tourney. By playing small-ball, the Longhorns won and executed 10 sacrifice bunts to move runners over, but also had seven homers in the Series. Pitching and defense also helped the Horns play small-ball as they only had two errors in the field and Texas pitchers allowed only seven runs in their five CWS games. Third baseman David Maroul won the Most Outstanding player Award by making key plays on defense and had eight hits, eight RBI's, and two homers, and 8 for 16, .500 for the College World Series.

In the 2005 CWS, no team scored ten or more runs in a game, the first time since the 1971 Series. For the first time since 1966, no team had over eight runs for a game. During the 2005 Series at Rosenblatt, 263,475 came to watch the games and the average session attendance of 23,952 also broke a record. With Nebraska in the CWS once again, the Series had a hometown feeling with the many Husker fans in attendance and many camping overnight to see their team finally win a CWS game at Rosenblatt.
